1. Sit up straight and hold the spirometer firmly with both hands.
2. Breathe out slowly and fully, then place the mouthpiece in your mouth.
3. Inhale slowly and deeply, watching the balls rise in the tube as you breathe in.
4. Try to keep all three balls at the top of the tube for as long as possible.
5. Pause and hold your breath for a few seconds, then exhale slowly.
6. Repeat the exercise ten times, several times a day.
